The Beuvray loops

These routes offer breathtaking views over the landscapes of the Bibracte-Morvan des Sommets Grand Site de France.

A great weekend adventure in the Morvan! The loops can start from the Bibracte museum or from the villages along the route.

They have been designed by the partners of the Bibracte-Morvan des Sommets Grand Site de France.

TOWARDS THE WOODS OF FOLIN

Distance 39 km. Ascent +/- 1166m

Bibracte, Glux-en-Glenne, Saint-Prix, Saint-Léger-sous-Beuvray

A hike in several stages, where the forest is king... You will cross the archaeological site of Bibracte, passing through the classified site of the Sources de l'Yonne and Mont Préneley to Haut Folin, the highest peak in Burgundy.

LES PÂTURES DU SUD MORVAN

Distance 41 km . Difference in altitude +/- 1126 m

Bibracte, Larochemillay, Poil

A multi-stage hike, combining great and little heritage. You'll wind your way through the southern Morvan, past pastures and ponds, past charming châteaux and bucolic panoramas.

The loop of the three Morvan summits

Distance 49km. Difference in altitude +/-1580

Explore the Grand Site de France at your own pace, discovering the three main peaks of the Morvan. This is a long but easy walk, always signposted and right in the heart of nature. It will take you from the listed site of Mont Beuvray to that of the Sources de l'Yonne on Mont Préneley. Finally, you'll make your way along the slopes of Haut-Folin, Burgundy's highest peak, to the Préperny pond.

Tour of the Morvan summits

Distance 140 km, 12 towns crossed in 7 stages

Accessible to all good walkers, this new itinerary recently proposed by the Grand Site de France offers hikers a trail to roam for several days over almost 140 km around the three main peaks of the Morvan. A gentle, in-depth exploration of the landscapes of the Grand Site de France and its rich cultural heritage.

Bibracte-Alésia

Distance 120 km, a great multi-hike trail in 4 stages

From the granite mountains of the Morvan to the limestone plateaux of the Auxois, 120 kilometres to cover on foot, horseback or mountain bike to link Bibracte to Alesia. The route roughly follows the ancient itinerary and passes close to the historic sites.

The GR® 13, crossing the Morvan

Distance 423 km.

The GR® 13 is a long-distance footpath linking Fontainebleau to Bourbon-Lancy. It crosses the Bibracte-Morvan des Sommets Grand Site de France between Roussillon-en-Morvan and Millay, passing through Bibracte.

Advice for walkers

Before you leave

  • Plan your itinerary according to your preferences and physical abilities.
  • Equip yourself with walking shoes and clothing appropriate to the weather conditions.
  • Inform your friends and family of your itinerary and return time.
  • Plan ahead and don't overestimate your strength.

During the tour

  • Don't forget that the area is shared by everyone: farmers, foresters, hunters, walkers, mountain bikers and horse riders.
  • When approaching a forestry operation (noise of chainsaw, skidding tractor, etc.) turn back for your own safety.
  • Respect crops and private property.
  • Do not frighten herds or leave your dogs unattended.
  • Do not leave marked footpaths.
  • Do not leave rubbish in the countryside.
  • Be careful when crossing busy roads.
  • Some areas may be subject to special environmental regulations (classified sites, biotope protection orders, Natura 2000 zones), which you can find out about from the Morvan Regional Nature Park.
